Shea Goodbye

I said my goodbye to Shea Stadium today. Oh and what a day it was. Have a look at some photos. You can view the full set at http://www.flickr.com/photos/rsafuto/sets/72157607544754195/. More good stuff coming soon.
Update: Click through to see a video I shot during the preview tour of Citi Field. The video will give you a good idea about the layout and some of the features of the new stadium.
Update 2: Added a video of Johan Santana recording the final out with the resulting Shea Stadium reaction.

Johan Gets The Final Out

The Magic Of Shea one last time
The price of Johan Santana has been worth every penny of every dollar of every million that we've paid and will continue to pay for his services.
My final trip to Shea was absolutely magical. The loss on Friday (where the heck was the offense?) versus the win on Saturday (Jo-Han!) actually had me choked up as i left the stadium for the last time. I was choked up with pride for the guys struggling through the last year (and especially the last couple of weeks) and all the wonderful years that this stadium has seen. The fans were fantastic from start to finish, literally starting the game off with the requisite chant of "Let's Go Met's even before the game had started. The only boos were for the Marlins (especially venomous for former Met Paul Lo Duca) and the umpires (the ever moving strike zone was in evidence).
Met up with Rob and shared some time solving all of the Mets problems (HA HA). I think it would be great to get a bunch of members to meet up next year at Citi field. I went through the Citi Field experience with my buddy, and got really pumped up with all of the upgrades that Citi will have.
Now to the issue at hand; the MUST win game on Sunday. The scenario is this: The Mets must win in order to stay alive. If the Mets win, and the Brewers loose, the Mets are in the Wild Card. If the Mets win and the Brewers win, the playoff game will be at Shea. If the Mets loose.....to quote a sign that was shown today at Shea "Failure is NOT an option".
The Mets must get really creative, and plan for all the scenarios that could occur on Sunday. What pitchers should pitch, for how long, and in what order. Who should bat, and in what order. How aggressive the base-running should be, etc.
Any fans that make it to Shea here is my advice to you: Fire up early, and don't let anything deter you in your support for the team. If people strike out, remember that most of the greatest hitters in the game have struck out MANY times. If the pitchers walk somebody, remember that most of the greatest hitters in the game have walked batters even in critical situations. If guys get caught stealing, check out how many time Rickey Henderson got caught stealing. Don't BOO these guys AT ALL! Cheer them all on, support them with all you've got. We (the Fans) are going to be the 10th guy on the field if we support them the way we should.
Wayne Gretsky is credited with the following quote: You miss 100 percent of the goals you don't shoot at. This means that you've got to take some chances to succeed. I think that the Mets need to take chances (Third Base coach anyone!!) in order to win tomorrow, and continue in the post-season.
As for me i say.....
Tug Said it.....I believe it.....That settles it......
YA GOTTA BELIEVE
justice
Justice would be served at this point if they'd let the fans in attendance burn it to the ground on the way out.
